Capturing the laughter, love, and real connection within a family is one of my absolute favourite things about being a family photographer in Bedford. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing this wonderful extended family during a fun and relaxed session – and it truly was a joy!

There’s something magical about photographing extended family groups. The energy, the bonds between siblings, the joy between grandparents and grandchildren – it all makes for beautifully natural moments. My goal is always to create a relaxed environment where everyone feels comfortable, especially the kiddies. When children are in a familiar setting and feel at ease, that’s when the genuine smiles and true personalities shine through. ❤️
A Comfortable Setting for Natural Moments
For this session, we chose a location familiar to the family, which made all the difference. Familiar surroundings help children (and adults!) feel more relaxed, leading to authentic and candid photographs. Whether it's running around in a garden, playing peek-a-boo, or simply cuddling up with Mum and Dad, these little moments are what create timeless memories.
What to Expect During an Extended Family Photo Session
My approach to extended family photography is very natural and playful. I give light direction when needed, but most of the time, I simply encourage families to interact with each other – hug, laugh, run, explore! These spontaneous interactions often result in the most treasured photographs.
Each session typically includes:
A mix of posed extended family portraits and candid moments
Plenty of opportunities for smaller group shots (siblings, grandparents, parents with children)
A relaxed, stress-free atmosphere
Approximately 60 fully edited digital images delivered via a private online gallery
